We think that Anne Ashworth in the Times Property Section has got it just about right.
First and foremost our house is our home. At the same time it is probably our principal asset, apart possibly from our pension. It is a tangible asset, able to be seen, inspected, valued and maintained in the physical sense, by ourselves.
We think that there will be a trend in the future to take more care in the stewardship of this asset, just as it would be if it were an asset on a balance sheet and not used as a source of capital to fund a lifestyle overspend.
