Which way to go?

Reading the financial advice columns of the weekend press, my heart sinks yet again. Some good, some lite, most of it well meaning, but still telling us what to do rather than how to do it.
They don't seem to understand the central point that we don't trust the bankers, the pension fund managers, in fact almost everyone in the financial services sector. The days of trusting these people have gone, the tide has changed.
We don't need business advice for small effect decisions, which appliance to buy or where to go on holiday. But when it comes to decisions, the effect of which will be apparent in ten, twenty years, or longer, we need structure and method to choose and manage the asset.
What we want is information on how to ensure as far as possible, our long-term financial well being.
In a post-modern, post-recession age, economically and financially, the individual is the enterprise.
Now may be the time to include well-proven business principles into the personal finance pages.
